mintboxd

A record of everything on your shelf.

Vinyl, CDs, cassettes, Blu-rays, cartridges, books, figures. Mintboxd records the physical pressings you own, one by one, and puts the collection on a 3D shelf.

What the app covers

For a collector, the copy on the shelf matters as much as the work itself. Mintboxd builds that distinction into its data model.

  • Recorded at pressing level

A 1973 original press and a 2015 reissue are different objects. Format, country, year, region code, edition and catalogue number each have their own field.

  • Barcode scanning

Hold the barcode on the back of the box up to the camera. If the pressing is in the catalogue, the item lands in your collection in seconds.

  • 3D shelf

The collection is drawn as real boxes at real case dimensions. A case with no known template can be measured with the phone camera.

  • Condition and provenance

Sealed or opened, and how many copies. Purchases, gifts and trades are marked separately, alongside notes, photos and an “open to trade” flag. That flag is a label and nothing more: any deal is between the two collectors, and the app carries no selling or payment flow.

  • Diary and reviews

What you watch or listen to goes into the diary. Rate it, review it, tag it. The statistics are derived from those entries.

  • Social layer

An activity feed, a full-screen reels view of covers, likes, comments and direct messages. Profiles can be kept private.

Get the app

Mintboxd is an iPhone app (iOS 17 and later). There is no web version; this page is informational only.

The app is free today and carries no advertising. It is not a marketplace either: there is no selling, payment, commission or shipping inside it, so we never ask for card details or a postal address.
